The workshops and interpreter training track will be directed by Dr. Barbara Lovas. Local Deaf will also share their feelings related to ethics and Deaf empowerment. Hands-on practices, break-out groups, techniques, resources, and study aids will also be provided to participants. The interpreter's track of the immersion silent weekend experience will be offered by LBCD.

This will be a fun-filled silent weekend: A total immersion experience into a Deaf world, dictated by Deaf culture, Deaf norms, and Deaf modes of communication. Participant will not be allowed to use verbal communication. The guidelines will be strictly enforced by a merit/demerit system. Those who complete the program will receive CEU's (if applicable) and an ASL Silent Weekend Survival certificate: novice, intermediate, or advanced levels. Participants that earn demerits will be provided opportunities to offset demerits with merits earned by volunteering to tell an ASL story, do an ASL skit, or sign a song. At the closing of the silent weekend, those who have earned 3 or more demerits and have not had them offset with merits will receive a letter of probation. Those on probation will be given three months to expunge their record by returning a "community service" voucher with proof of being involved in a Deaf community event in order to expunge their probation, and in exchange receive a novice certificate. Though silence will be enforced, this weekend will be a safe warm environment, where participants will also have a good time, and be able to reflect and renew: As there will also be a time of prayer, worship, and Biblical teaching lead by John Lovas.

Special needs and childcare requests MUST be received in advance of the weekend. For more info contact Michael Mack at michaelalanmack@gmail.com or V.P. # 225-570-1133
