Lacey Loupe, explaining growing up Deaf

bblovas has shared a video with you on YouTube
Life as a Deaf Person
This is all about my life as a deaf person... My goal is to help hearing people to understand deaf people better and how to help them. However, I am so sorry that this video has no subtitling for hearing. I thought I could do it, but it became more complicated for me. Also I am not good at English. If anyone is willing to help me out with this, I would be very appreciate and grateful! Thank you...

http://www.classroominterpreting.org/eipa/standards/index.asp

Brenda Schick, Ph.D., working with the EIPA Diagnostic Center at Boys Town National Research Hospital, has developed the EIPA Written Test and Knowledge Standards. This comprehensive multiple-choice test evaluates the interpreter’s understanding of information that is critical to performing with students in an education setting. The test consists of 177 questions and takes approximately one and a half to three hours to complete. This computer-based test is administered through the Internet. A passing score on the EIPA Written Test is not needed in order to take the EIPA Performance Assessment.

Preparing for the Test

The EIPA Written Test is based on a set of knowledge standards that was developed by a group of experts, including deaf consumers, interpreters, interpreter trainers, deaf educators, and ASL linguistics.

The test is not a factual memory test. In other words, memorization of the knowledge standards only, may not enable you to receive a passing score. Application of knowledge to situations is necessary in order to pass this examination.

The test is also based on the EIPA Code of Professional Conduct for Educational Interpreters. The RID Code of Ethics is not the basis for professional conduct in the EIPA Written Test.

The written test will be given in 2013 during the months of February, March, May, June, September, October and November 1st - 15th, 2013.

I always sign up for the Publisher's Clearinghouse Sweepstakes ... and I guess I don't have to tell you that I have never won ... but that is another story. Anyway, while searching with the PCH search engine to gain extra entries I stumbled on this article about John. I am blessed to have such an awesome husband!!!

What's New

John Lovas selected for Hamilton Relay 2011 Deaf Community Leader Award for the State of Louisiana

(September 17, 2011)
John has built a reputation as a leader in the community and has been instrumental in bringing the hearing and deaf communities together through various types of social and educational activities. He has been a well-respected Pastor of the Canal Blvd. Baptist Deaf Church in New Orleans for the past 15 years and has been in the pastoral ministry for the past 20 years. He graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1985 and attended the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina flooded the area and essentially destroyed the church that John spent so many years building. He and his family were forced to leave. Immediately after relocating, John focused on ways to locate and assist a countless number of senior citizens and deaf individuals in New Orleans – helping many relocate within Baton Rouge and other parishes for their safety. He spent many hours providing assistance and working with the Red Cross to search for families and their loved ones who were relocated across the country.

Over many months after the hurricane, John rebuilt his church. Through his leadership, the deaf community slowly reestablished communication and other social activities. John became the sponsor of monthly meetings where he invited students, educators and friends to meet. John and his wife developed a webpage that kept everyone informed on events happening in the city and in the church.

John has been described by his peers as a compassionate, non-judgmental individual. We applaud him for all the efforts he has put forth in the community and are pleased to present him with this year's Hamilton Relay Deaf Community Leader Award.

This leadership recognition has been brought to you by Hamilton Relay.

Water Kefir Workshop with a intro to ... HEALTHY COOKING

It is time to stop drinking soda (which is bad for you) and opt for something that tastes a million times better, is healthy ... and is much more affordable!!!

Instructor: Barbara Lovas, ThD
Date: Saturday, June 15, 2013
Time: 1pm - 2:30pm
Cost: FREE
Location: TBA
(location will be given w/ confirmation of attendance -- due to limited space)
TO REGISTER TO ATTEND: reply to bblovas1@yahoo.com

Ok, it is time for a last minute water kefir workshop. My kefir is growing so fast that I need to give some away!!!

Workshop Part 1
Those who attend will be given some grains and instruction on how to make water kefir. I will include a recipe and resources. Please bring to the workshop a regular canning jar (pint or quart).
I will provide you with all the instructions, ingredients and the recipe needed to make your first batch. So, you will go home prepared to make your first batch. As always, I don't sell my grains or scobies, but will give them away.

Workshop Part 2

We will go over general guidelines to eating healthy. Topics will include homegrown probiotics, fermented foods, and our body's need for fatty acids. We will also discuss how to make healthy tasty alternatives to replace foods that we need to eliminate from our diets. Of course, you can expect me to fuss a bit about white table salt (poison) and artificial sweeteners (poison) ... but I will give you healthy alternatives! In fact, I will give you an opportunity to taste them.
We will make 2 or 3 recipes together. One recipe will be chia pudding. I have not decided what the others will be yet. If you have any preferences, let me know.

NOTE: If you want milk kefir, water kefir or a kombucha scoby, remember those are available according to my supply. That being said; If you ask in advance, I should have some milk kefir grains and maybe some kombucha ready to give away on the day of the workshop.
If you are interested in attending this workshop, please reply to this e-mail and let me know you plan to go. Due to limited space at this workshop, I will give you the meeting place location/address with your confirmation. Feel free to invite your friends, just make sure you inform me, so they are added into my headcount.:)
I am looking forward to seeing you there. For those of you who live far away, feel free to ask me for handouts and resources if you also want the information.
Seize the day!!!
